Approval process for use of alternative or supplemental data

BCDC encourages the use of the data in the RSAP Atlas. However, the RSAP Atlas may not capture all of the data that you need for your plan. You may also have access to data that better reflects local conditions. In those cases, you may submit a request to BCDC to use alternative or supplemental data.

Approval process

If you would like to use alternative or supplemental data for your subregional plan (plan), you must submit a written request to BCDC. You may use the following form to submit your request: Alternative or Supplemental Data Form.

We will review your request and provide a written response within 30 days. You may appeal any rejection by BCDC.

Any data used in plans must satisfy the following requirements: relevance, inclusiveness, objectivity, transparency, accessibility, timeliness, and peer review (please see RSAP Section 3.1.2 for what these terms mean). The regional data in the RSAP Atlas is already determined to meet these criteria. Any alternative or supplemental data must also meet these criteria.

Please contact your plan liaison with any questions.

Pre-approved alternative or supplemental data

BCDC has reviewed the data sources in Table 1 according to the RSAP criteria (RSAP Section 3.1.2) and determined that they are appropriate for use in plans. If you would like to use this alternative data, you do not need to submit a request to staff to use the data. However, you must notify staff using the process outlined below. The table below identifies the RSAP minimum category and assets and geographies for which the data may be used.

The datasets listed reflect the best available information at time of approval. BCDC may update the list of approved data as new scientific findings or relevant information becomes available.

Notification process for use of pre-approved alternative or supplemental data:

If you choose to use one of the data sources below, please send an email to subregionalplan@bcdc.ca.gov. The email must include:

  • the plan name and jurisdiction(s) covered
  • the plan lead contact information
  • the data source proposed
  • whether it serves as an alternative or supplemental data set
  • the associated RSAP minimum category and asset
