Notice of intent to initiate the subregional shoreline adaptation plan titled San Francisco Shoreline Adaptation Plan.

The City and County of San Francisco will prepare an adaptation plan along its shoreline to identify areas of vulnerability for sea level rise and groundwater inundation; analyze exposure levels and potential consequences; develop and evaluate adaptation strategies; and prepare funding and implementation strategies. The plan will build on prior related efforts (e.g., Sea Level Rise Vulnerability and Consequences Assessment (2020)) and existing related studies (e.g., Yosemite Slough Neighborhood Adaptation Strategy), and fill gaps that previous work did not cover. It will also update past assessments and plans with today’s science; incorporate new data, such as groundwater inundation risks; and be informed by community engagement so that adaptation strategies are tailored to local needs. Public outreach for this project will consist of two major efforts: (1) Outreach activities focused on collaborating with and hearing from those most vulnerable to sea level rise, groundwater inundation, and environmental justice; and (2) An advisory committee of representatives from affected community groups, local businesses, and nearby jurisdictions.
