Public Workshops on Rising Sea Level

Commissioners, Alternates, and the public participated in the seventh workshop of the Rising Sea Level Workshop Series. The Rising Sea Level Workshop Series is designed to scope the implementation of the eight regional actions approved by the Commission on October 6, 2016. Workshop seven focused on Action 5, which is “Change existing laws, policies and regulations to more fully consider the local and regional impacts of rising sea levels in permitting and decision-making processes as needed” and is an outgrowth of the Bay Fill Working Group and Policies for a Rising Bay Project work. In implementing this action, the Working Group and staff highlighted some of that work on specific issues that may result in a San Francisco Bay Plan amendment. Participants in the workshop learned about policy issues associated with permitting projects that are resilient to rising sea level as well as help us to develop possible visions for the future Bay. The Commission received a staff briefing on Workshop 5 of the Rising Sea Level Workshop Series, including the ideas, recommendations, questions and comments that were raised by the participants and the next steps for scoping the Regional Adaptation Plan.

Commissioners, Alternates, and members of the public heard a staff presentation on the proposed timeline for implementing the rising sea level recommendations approved on October 6, 2016 and then participated in a workshop to identify options for implementing the recommendations in a way that will increase the resilience of the Bay Area’s shoreline communities and ecosystems. Discussion and Possible Vote Regarding Rising Sea Level Policy Options
Commissioners and Alternates discussed, and voted on, revised recommendations arising from the Commission’s working groups and three public workshops held earlier this year regarding rising sea level. Commissioners first reviewed staff’s initial recommendations on May 19, 2016 and provided direction to staff regarding amendments to those proposed recommendations. Learn more...

Commissioners and Alternates discussed the findings and preliminary recommendations that have arisen from the first three workshops. Most of the preliminary recommendations originated from the priorities identified in the third workshop and the comments, recommendations, and outcomes from all the workshops.

Commission Workshop on Lessons Learned from San Francisco Bay Plan Climate Change Amendments Implementation
Commissioners, Alternates, and the public participated in a workshop to review and discuss the Bay Plan’s Climate Change amendments approved almost five years ago. This was the first in a series of workshops to be held monthly (or near monthly) to discuss policy issues relating to the Commission’s work on rising sea level issues.
