May 21, 2015 Commission Meeting Summary

16 members attended the May 21, 2015 BCDC meeting, which was held at the Ferry Building in San Francisco.

On a vote of 14-0-0, the Commission approved a contract with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Office of Spill Prevention and Response for a maximum of $350,000 over a two-year period beginning on July 1, 2015. For details contact Linda Scourtis (415/352-3644;

The Commission held a public hearing on its proposed Coastal Management Program Assessment and Strategy, which included presentations by both Commission staff and staff from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). For details contact Rebecca Coates-Maldoon (415/352-3649;

On a vote of 14-0-0, the Commission approved the City of Larkspur’s proposed reconstruction of the Bon Air Bridge. For details contact Jaime Michaels (415/352-3613;

On a vote of 15-0-1, the Commission decided to support AB 1323, legislation to enable the removal and disposal of marine debris. For details contact Steve Goldbeck (415/352-3611;

The next regularly scheduled Commission meeting will occur on June 4, 2015, and will be held at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. The preliminary agenda includes, but may not be limited to:

  1. A public hearing and possible vote on a permit application by the Water Emergency Transit Authority (WETA) to construct an operations and maintenance facility in the City of Alameda.
  2. A public hearing and possible vote on an application for a Consistency Determination by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for its maintenance dredging operations in the Bay.
  3. A briefing on the Regional Resilient Shorelines Partnership project or a briefing by the Bay Area Regional Collaborative (formerly known as the Joint Policy Committee).
