November 1 , 2012 Commission Meeting Summary

Nineteen members attended today's BCDC meeting, which was held at the Ferry Building in San Francisco.

Supervisor John Gioia of Contra Costa County led a briefing and discussion on the Contra Costa County waterfront and BCDC-related issues. He was ably assisted by staff from both the county and the City of Richmond. For details, contact Larry Goldzband (415/352-3653;

Joe LaClair, Chief Planning Officer, provided the Commission with an update on the regional sea level rise work plan, which was developed by the Association of Bay Area Governments and BCDC staff and approved by the Joint Policy Committee. The Commission also was briefed by consultant Jeremy Lowe on new sea level rise projections prepared by the National Research Council and their possible ramifications. Brenda Goeden, Sediment Program Manager, provided the Commission with a briefing on sand transport in San Francisco Bay to prepare Commissioners for upcoming sand mining permit application discussions, among other topics. The Commission also was provided a comprehensive briefing on the Bayfloor and sand movement by Dr. Patrick Barnard of the U.S. Geological Survey. For details, contact Brenda Goeden (415/352-3623;

Tim Eichenberg, the Commission’s senior attorney, and Leslie Muse, the Commission’s acquisition officer, each plan to retire at the end of 2012. Job listings are posted on the Commission’s website.
