July 21, 2011 Commission Meeting Summary
Nineteen members attended the meeting, which was held at the MetroCenter in Oakland.
The Commission held a public hearing on proposed revisions of the San Francisco Bay Plan waterfront park priority use designations at Candlestick Point in San Francisco. The Commission received briefing on the status of the staff’s efforts to respond to the public input that has been received regarding Bay Plan Amendment No. 1-08 dealing with climate change. Members of the public and Commissioners commented on a draft preamble, which explains the purpose of the amendments, as the latest draft language of the Bay Plan amendments. On July 29, 2011, the staff will release its fourth preliminary recommendation on Bay Plan Amendment No. 1-08, and the Commission will hold a public hearing on the recommendation on September 1, 2011. The Commission concurred with a staff assessment that the best option for relocating the Commission’s office when its lease expires in April 2013 is for BCDC to become a tenant in a building at 390 Main Street, San Francisco, which three other regional agencies are considering purchasing. The other agencies, which are the Commission’s partners on the Joint Policy Committee, are the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the Association of Bay Area Governments, and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District. Greg Mediati and Nicole Noceto will be interns on BCDC’s enforcement staff until the end of the year. Ms. Mediati received a bachelor of science in environmental science and policy analysis from the University of California Davis and has worked for the Sierra Club and for the City of South San Francisco's Department of Parks and Recreation. Chief Deputy Attorney General Matt Rodriquez, who previously served as one of the deputy attorney generals assigned to BCDC, has been appointed Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency by Governor Jerry Brown. The next Commission meeting will be held on August 4, 2011, at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. The Commission meeting scheduled for August 18, 2011 will be cancelled.
