December 16, 2010 Commission Meeting Summary
Twenty members attended the meeting, which was held at the MetroCenter in Oakland.

The Commission discussed some optional approaches for revising the staff's proposed Bay Plan climate change policies and provided the staff with suggestions for dealing with policies on risk assessment, a regional adaptation strategy and the evaluation of permit applications for proposed development in low-lying areas. The Commission endorsed the selection of a section of Alameda County between the Bay Bridge and the Hayward-San Mateo Bridge as the area that will be the focus of the Adapting to Rising Tides Project. For details, contact Lindy Lowe (415/352-3642 email@example.com).

The Commission adopted resolutions of appreciation for departing Commission members Rich Gordon, Bob Wieckowski, Sophie Maxwell and Beverly Johnson. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors has appointed Supervisor Carole Groom to succeed Rich Gordon as the County’s representative on BCDC, and the State Lands Commission has concurred in the re-appointment of Grace Kato as the alternate to Curtis Fossum, the newly-appointed executive officer of the Lands Commission. James Stillman has joined the Commission’s staff as a planning intern. He received a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Urban Planning from Sonoma State University and has six years of professional experience, including four years as an associate planner with the City of Woodland. An orientation briefing for new members of the Commission will tentatively be held in lieu of BCDC’s regularly-scheduled Commission meeting on the afternoon of Thursday, February 17, 2011. The Commission’s annual all-day strategic planning workshop will tentatively be held on Thursday, July 21, 2011. Commission members should advise the staff if other meetings or obligations would conflict with BCDC meetings on these dates.
