March 4, 2010 Commission Meeting Summary
Nineteen members attended the meeting, which was held at the Ferry Building in San Francisco.
The Commission held a public hearings and voted (17-0-0) to issue a permit that will allow the Exploratorium to be relocated from the Academy of Fine Arts to Piers 15 and 17 on the San Francisco waterfront. For details, contact Ming Yeung (415/352-3616 firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Commission voted (19-0-0) to approve two contracts that use funds provided by permittees to pay for public access improvements in Hayward and South San Francisco. For details contact Caitlin Sweeney (415/352-3643 email@example.com).
The Commission voted (19-0-0) to approve an agreement with the California Department of Fish and Game to provide BCDC with funding for the next three years to carry out mandated oil spill prevention and response activities. The Commission received a briefing on the progress being made in implementing BCDC’s strategic plan and approved one change in the plan. The next all-day workshop to update the plan will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2010. For details, contact Will Travis (415/352-3653 email@example.com).
The Commission concurred in the hiring of Dr. Wendy Goodfriend as a senior planner specialist. Dr. Goodfriend holds a PhD and Masters in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Arizona and a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of California, Davis. She has worked in Connecticut as a consultant, an educator, a government employee and a local wetland protection commission member. The Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, has appointed Sam Ziegler to replace David Smith as EPA’s representative on BCDC and Jason Brush to replace Karen Schwinn as EPA’s alternate representative. The San Francisco chapter of the American Institute of Architects will honor BCDC’s “Rising Tides” design competition with a Special Achievement Award at the AIA’s design awards celebration in early May. For details, contact Brad McCrea (415/352-3615 firstname.lastname@example.org).
