February 4, 2010 Commission Meeting Summary

18 members attended the meeting, which was held at the Ferry Building in San Francisco.

The Commission voted (17-0-0) to issue a permit to upgrade a public trail along the shoreline of Richardson Bay in Marin County. The Commission held a public hearing on the application at its last meeting. For details, contact Max Delaney (415/352-3668 maxd@bcdc.ca.gov).

The Commission voted (18-0-0) to approve the text of BCDC’s 2009 annual report. For details contact Will Travis (415/352-3653 travis@bcdc.ca.gov).

The Commission received a briefing on the lessons learned from the Bay restoration projects the Commission has approved. For details, contact Bob Batha (415/352-3612 bobb@bcdc.ca.gov).

The Commission received a briefing on the progress being made in implementing BCDC’s strategic plan. The next all-day workshop to update the plan will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2010. For details, contact Will Travis (415/352-3653 travis@bcdc.ca.gov).

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors has approved Supervisor Valerie Brown’s selection of Supervisor Efren Carrillo as her alternate on BCDC, and the Solano County Board of Supervisors has reappointed Supervisor Mike Reagan as the County’s representative and Supervisor Barbara Kondylis as the County’s alternate on BCDC. Adam Parris, a member of BCDC’s climate change team, has resigned to accept a position as the head of the NOAA’s Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments Program in Silver Spring, Maryland. Tamsen Drew is a new legal intern at BCDC. She is a third year student at Hastings College of Law and a graduate of UC Berkeley where she majored in architecture. Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed continued General Fund support for BCDC in the 2010-11 fiscal year. The idea advanced in May 2009 for eliminating General Fund support for BCDC is not part of the current proposal. To comply with a Governor’s executive order requiring all state departments to reduce staff costs an additional five percent two vacant staff positions (a permit analyst and a planner) will be kept vacant. However, three new staff (a senior planner, a planner and an enforcement analyst) will be hired. For details, contact Richard Ng (415/352-3637 richardn@bcdc.ca.gov).

Members of the Commission were reminded that they must submit their annual Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) to Commission’s office by April 1, 2010. For assistance with the forms, contact Sandra Sneeringer (415/352-3650 sandras@bcdc.ca.gov).

The next Commission meeting will be held on March 4, 2010 at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. The Commission meeting scheduled to be held on February 18, 2010 has been cancelled. In place of the cancelled meeting, an orientation briefing for new Commission members will be held at BCDC’s office. The briefing is open to the public.
