April 2, 2009 Commission Meeting Summary

Eighteen members attended the meeting, which was held at the Ferry Building in San Francisco.

The Commission voted (17-0-0) to authorize the executive director to enter into a contract with the Association of Bay Area Governments and other agencies and firms to allow the Commission to receive a $600,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and to expend the funds on a pilot study of resilience to climate change in Bay wetlands. The Commission received a briefing from Karla Nemeth of the California Natural Resources Agency on the Bay Delta Conservation Plan. For details, contact Jessica Hamburger (415/352-3660 jessicah@bcdc.ca.gov).

The Commission received a briefing on the key proposed Bay Plan findings and policies that are emerging from the staff¹s background report on climate change. The Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed Bay Plan revisions at its next meeting. For details, contact Leslie Lacko

The Commission received a briefing on the progress being made in implementing BCDC¹s strategic plan and approved a few changes in the deadlines for completing some of the objectives in the plan. The Commission held a closed session and agreed to some revisions in a settlement of a lawsuit that will enforce a cease and desist order BCDC issued to deal with violations of a permit for the Paradise Cay marina in Marin County. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has appointed its board president, David Chiu, to represent San Francisco on BCDC. For details, contact Will Travis (415/352-3653 travis@bcdc.ca.gov).

The Association of Bay Area Governments has appointed Commission members John Gioia of Contra Costa County and Charles McGlashan of Marin County to serve on the seven-member governing board of the newly-established San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority. For details, contact Will Travis

The Commission¹s office will no longer be closed the first and third Friday of each month even though BCDC employees still have to take two furlough days without pay each month. The office hours are now 8:30 to 12:00 and 1:00 to 5:00, Monday through Friday.
